Ed Piper opened a jewelry store in downtown Woodburn in 1923. He had just finished watch making school and married Edith Wanker. Woodburn was good to the Piper’s. Soon they had three sons and a daughter. Of the three boys only one followed Ed into the business and that was middle son Harley who joined the firm in 1945, as the youngest licensed watch maker in the state of Oregon.

Harley became a partner and married Marian Davis. Woodburn continued to be good to the Pipers. The store grew in size so that by 1950 it encompassed 3000 sq. ft. A huge store by today’s standards. And one that featured every kind of jewelry as well as lead crystal, china, sterling silver flat wear, small kitchen appliances, men’s accessories such as wallets, razors and lighters, watches and repair. Harley’s and Marian’s family was growing as well. Soon they had a son and two daughters.

In 1967 Ed retired and Harley and Marian took over ownership of the business. The front street store was remodeled into a state of the art facility, which was featured in several trade magazines at the time.

In 1977 Harley’s son Charles joined the firm. A recent graduate of Oregon State University and married only 3 years to Becky Kahut, Charlie broke the family tradition and became a goldsmith.

In 1980 Charlie and Harley became partners and opened a second store in downtown Canby. For a while change came fast and furious for a 60 year old firm. In 1983 the land mark location in down town was moved to North Park Plaza in Woodburn. In 1991 a 3rd store was opened in Wilsonville Town Center. In 1995 Harley and Marian retired. And Charlie and Becky assumed ownership of the firm.

Today Piper’s Jewelry features fine gold and platinum jewelry set with diamonds and precious stones, Citizen watches, custom gold and platinum manufacturing, jewelry and watch repair, and in the spirit of our founders the best "follow through service" anywhere! Will there be a 4th generation in the family business? Charlie and Becky have 2 sons and several nieces, but only time will tell. For now, Piper’s Jewelry enters the new millennium better than ever!
